MLB news: Philies place Velasquez on DL

Another pitcher is headed to the DL in the MLB, after the Philadelphia Phillies placed RHP Vince Velasquez on the 10-day disabled list with a right flexor strain. To replace him, RHP Ricardo Pinto was recalled from Lehigh Valley (AAA).

Velasquez, 24, has a 5.58 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 50 innings this year. He has a career 4.49 ERA and 263 strikeouts in 236.2 innings with the Phillies and Houston Astros over three seasons. He was part of the blockbuster trade that sent firearm reliever Ken Giles to Houston.

Pinto, 23, has never played in the majors. He has a 5.53 ERA with 27 Ks in 42.1 innings this year for Lehigh Valley. He has a ERA 3.39 ERA with 371 strikeouts in 522.2 innings in his minor league career (all levels).
